Winnie Poyner

Winnie Ruth Landreth Poyner, 87, passed away from this life on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at her residence in Houston. She was born on June 26, 1937, in Vardaman to Larkin Hartwell and Lavera Ruth Landreth. A 1955 graduate of Vardaman High School, she married James Lamar Poyner that same year. Prior to her retirement, she worked at Lane Furniture as a seamstress then began cooking for several service stations in the Tupelo area. Her greatest joy was cooking for her family and looked forward to the times where she would spend days preparing meals for her family gatherings and she considered it a labor of love. She made sure everyone had plenty to eat. Her love was her family, and her hobby was watching her hummingbirds. 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. Mike Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the Gilmer Addition of Sulligent City Cemetery.

She is survived by her son, Johnny Poyner (Lorena) of Houston; two daughters, Gwen Pace (Jimmy), Aberdeen and Debbie Johnson (Danny), Brewer; grandchildren, Joshua Graham (Brittney), Shaina King (Michael), Jackie Williams (Dale), Heather Page, Chris Pace (Jennifer), Kristi Pate, Adam Johnson (Taylor), Daniel Johnson (Tracy), Crystal Kaiser (Nick), Joshua Garrison, Nina Garrison; great grandchildren galore; a great-great grand; and several nieces nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, James Len Poyner; brother, Bruce Landreth; and 3 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Josh Graham, Michael King, Dale Williams, Josh Garrison, Adam Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Chase Johnson, Banks Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Nate King, Tanner Graham, Laden Graham, Kaden King, and Dakota King.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
