Verna Ruth Edwards Payne, 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at her daughter’s residence in Nettleton after an extended illness. She was born on April 3, 1932 in Monroe County to Jesse and Bell Cantrell Edwards. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County, a seamstress, and a member of Central Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible, watching television, & being with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Payne Peters of Nettleton; four grandchildren, John Peters (Stephenie) and Missy Peters, all of Slidell, LA, Molly Peters of New Orleans, LA, & Justin Peters of Butler, PA: four great grandsons, Nick Olmstead, Noah Glassey, & Jackson Glassey, all of Slidell, LA, Cosmo Peters of Alpharetta, GA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joe Glenn Payne; her parents; one sister, Loyce Conwill.
Pallbearers will be Bill Kyle, Mark Kyle, Bubba Payne, B.J. Payne, Dennis Payne & Willie Lockett.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
