Mary Jean Schmidt

Mary Jean “Jeannie” Schmidt, 74, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice in Tupelo surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born on January 3, 1950 in Alabama to Houston Sullivan and Mary Gilmore.  A long-time resident of the Richmond Community, she married Jim Schmidt on June 27, 1969. A devoted wife, loving mother, and wonderful grandmother, she also was the bookkeeper for the family construction business before Jim passed away. She loved watching westerns on television especially Gunsmoke. A fan of old country music, her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren, and Rottweiler, Maggie. She attended Richmond Baptist Church. Jeannie will be dearly missed, yet there is peace knowing that she is completely healed we will see her again in Heaven one day.

 A celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with Bro. John Raper officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Chapel Cemetery. 

 She is survived by her children, Jim Schmidt (Nancy) of Belleville, IL, John Schmidt, Becky Walters (Rodger), Tony Schmidt (Gwen), Shelly Johnson (Alex) all of the Richmond Community; siblings, Charles Sullivan (Chris), Lynn Lee (Dean) both of Mobile, AL, Darlene Gann, and Bobby Gilmore, Jr. of Mantachie; 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

 She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Jim Schmidt; daughter, Cheryl Schmidt; and brothers, Robert Sullivan and Paul Smith. 

 Pallbearers will be Derrick Sawyer, Shawn Sawyer, Dalton Schmidt, Russ Johnson, Dale Walters, and William Teer.

 Visitation will be on Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the serviced hour. 

Special thanks are extended to the staff of Country Wood Manor/Lakewood Place at Mantachie and to the staff of NMMC Hospice Unit for their kindness and compassion.
