Marvin Delano Griggs

Marvin Delano Griggs, 84, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the NMMC in Tupelo.  He was born in Monroe County on February 13, 1939 to the late Clifford Louis Griggs and Minnie Bell Smitherman Griggs.  Marvin attended Aberdeen Schools and honorably served his country in the United States Navy.  He married Darlene Pettis in 1960.  Marvin worked in construction as a pipeliner and was also a car salesman.  He was a hard worker and took great pride in providing for his seven children.  In his earlier years he enjoyed riding motorcycles.  He also enjoyed going to the drag races, watching Nascar, listening to old country music and fishing.  More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by his daughters, Dorothy Jernigan (Wayne), Amory, Vickie Wells (Bobby), Arkansas, Sharon Holley (Ricky), New Site and Karen Griggs, Hatley; son, Larry Griggs (Beverly), Plantersville; brother, Jerry Griggs, Okolona; grandchildren, Johnny Griggs, Jennifer Hopper, Regina Vaughn, Elizabeth Jernigan, Ruby Wells, David Wells, Lucy Griggs, Caroline Griggs, Aaron Griggs, Misty Damron, Chris Griggs, Kevin Griggs, Sherry Prestage, Lewis Prestage, Jr., Nathan Griggs, Brandy Griggs; 38 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Marvin is preceded in death by two sons, Marvin Griggs, Jr. and Michael Wayne Griggs; grandchildren, Kyle Griggs, Josh Griggs and Natasha Griggs; sister, Marian Dragoo; brothers, Finice Griggs, Eugene Griggs and Larry Griggs.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen.  Burial will follow in Coontail Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Johnny Griggs, Chris Griggs, Kevin Griggs, Lewis Prestage, Jr., Aaron Griggs and David Wells.  Honorary pallbearer will be Larry Griggs.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Monday from 11 AM until 12:45 PM.
