Martha West

Martha Elaine Sykes West, 77, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 in Pontotoc at her daughter’s home. She was born on May 15, 1947 in Aberdeen to Durley and Lois Louise Chandler Sykes. She lived most of her life in the Lackey and Hamilton communities and she married Ronald D. West, Sr. on May 2, 1964. Before retiring, she worked in the area garment industry, and she was a member of Hamilton Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, whom she cherished.

Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Ministers Tim West and Pete Murff officiating. Burial will follow in the Sartor Cemetery.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, Ronald West, Sr., she is survived by her son, Ronald West, Jr. (Michille), Hamilton; her daughter, Zenobia Zumback, Pontotoc; 2 sisters, Durlynn Lavender, Aberdeen and Brenda Crump, SC; grandchildren, Lonnie Red (Jessica), Tiffany Koger (Alex), Chelsea Red (Roy), and Michael West (Mallory); and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Corbitt West; granddaughter, Abigail West; son-in-law, Stanley Zumback; two brothers, James and Frank Sykes; and two sisters, Linda Miller and Carolyn Walker.

Pallbearers will be Lonnie Red, Michael West, Roy Kelly, Alex Koger, Pete Murff, and Dwayne Murff.

A special thanks is extended to Gentiva Hospice for their constant and devoted care.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service hour.
