Leroy Jones

February 5, 1944 — January 12, 2025

Aberdeen

Leroy Ogden Jones, “Polecat”, age 80, passed away at home on January 12, 2025, after a seven-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born February 5, 1944, to Mary Jackson and Guy Jones, Sr. and welcomed home by two brothers. His father having been a veteran of World War I, and being a war baby, he was named after a WWI General.

Leroy got his nickname “Polecat” from climbing poles during his early years working as a lineman. He worked for Aberdeen Electric Department for 34 years before retiring as Operations Superintendent. He was a member of First Christian Church, The American Legion and a charter member of the Aberdeen Antique & Classic Car Club where he served as president for many years.

Most weekends he could be found showing one of his cars at a car show somewhere and bringing home a trophy late Saturday afternoon. As his health declined, he had to part with his classic cars so that others could enjoy them and carry on their legacy.

In his later years he became a bingo-holic. He was a fixture at American Legion Bingo and made many trips to Magnolia Bingo in Tupelo. He also enjoyed going to the casino for slot tournaments and wouldn’t turn down the chance to buy ‘a chance’ on anything.

Leroy is survived by his wife and steadfast caregiver, Sandy, his daughter, Jennifer Adams and her husband Danny, one grandson, Jon Mason Adams; brother in law Roger McClendon (Nina) of Homestead, Florida, a nephew Tuck Jones and his wife Annette; a niece Joy Jones (Greg), great nephew Reed Jones (Andrea) and their children Henry and Cecilia, great niece MaryElizabeth ‘Meme’ Aldridge (Ben) and their daughter Mila, cousins David Watson (Bess) and Marie Crabtree (Walter).

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Guy Jones Jr. (Merriel), Bobby Jones (Barbara), his mother-in-law Jeane McClendon (Aaron).

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. Rodger Collins officiating.  Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery. Visitation will begin prior to the service Wednesday at 2:30 and continue until service time.
