Jeanie Bowen

Anita Jean “Jeanie”  Bowen, 74, passed away on March 28, 2023 at DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.  She was born on July 24, 1948 in Aberdeen to Alvis and Magdalene Stanford Walden.  She graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1966 and immediately began working at Kerr-McGee in the payroll department and continued there for 36 years retiring from Tronox.  She was married to Mike Bowen.  Jeanie was often seen riding around looking for someone to help. Before her health failed, she liked working in the yard, sewing, and harvesting pecans.  Jeanie was heavily involved in her church activities, recently Community of Grace Church.  She liked to fish with Mike, and she was a proud breast cancer survivor.  Helping in her husband’s cattle business, she had her own supervisory role while running cows through the chute.  Selfless in every way, she sought opportunities to do good, never wanting anything in return.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. Mark Thornton officiating.  Burial will be in the New Hope Coontail Cemetery.

In addition to her husband, Mike Bowen, she is survived by 3 sons, Scott Smith and Ryan Smith both of Hamilton and Brian Bowen of Wren; one sister, Gwyn Smith (Mike) of Brookhaven; special friends, Arlene Lester, Joanie Savage, Debbie Hull, and many, many others.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and 2 brothers, Julian and Donnie Walden.

Pallbearers will be Roy Gentry, Nelson Riddle, Ricky Hollis, Wesley Tabor, Scott Smith, Ryan Smith, and Brian Bowen.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
