James Runnell Plaxico, Jr., “Poncho,” 56, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024. He was born on August 1, 1968 in Monroe County to James Runnell, Sr. and Edith Plaxico. He attended Aberdeen and Hamilton Schools and at an early age, he began working in the family plumbing business. Working around his dad, uncles, and cousins, he gained generations of knowledge about residential and commercial plumbing and worked all across the south. Not one to meet a stranger, Poncho would talk and visit with anyone and developed many lasting relationships. He had a heart of gold and through his generosity, would give to anyone in need. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed cooking, but above all, he loved his family and going to church.
Poncho is survived by his sons, Lee Plaxico (Morgan), Pontotoc and Hayden Plaxico, Hamilton; grandchildren, Daniel, Cannon and Maggie Lee Plaxico; a host of cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Poncho is preceded in death by his wife, Traci Plaxico; brothers, Robert and Gary Plaxico.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. Dempsey Rowland officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Bennett, Bobby Butler, Mike Walters, Richard Walters, Jerry Morris, Donnie Williams, Barry Thompson and Jesse Butler.
Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
