Howard "Mockingbird" Ausborn, 76, passed away at his residence on Thursday, August 29, 2024. He was born in Aberdeen on April 15, 1948 to the late James Roland and Patricia Murff Ausborn. Howard attended Aberdeen High School and was a graduate of Chamberlain Hunt Academy. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He courageously served as a submariner for 3 tours during the Vietnam War. Everyone that knew Mockingbird, knew that he was proud of his service. He was also extremely instrumental in helping our area veterans and served as Post Commander for the VFW in Aberdeen. Howard married Marcy Wall on December 29, 1989 and they had 35 beautiful years together. He was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church in Nettleton and only missed 4 services in the last 11 years. Mockingbird also enjoyed a good Harley Davidson and a jeep.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marcy Ausborn, Aberdeen; daughter, Jessi Edin Ausborn Denison, Washington; son, Garrett Wayne Children, Livingston, LA; brother, Chris Ausborn (Pat), Aberdeen); nephew he loved as a son, Patrick Bales (Amy), Aberdeen; grandchildren, Henry Ausborn Denison, Harley Rae Childers and Colston Wayne Childers; niece and nephews, Wyatt Ausborn, Jamie Saxon and Drew Bales.
In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by his sister, Patti Lee Bales; stepson, Will Christopher Childers; nephews, Will and Thomas Lee Bales.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
