Aberdeen

Hal Holmes Rieves, 88, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at his home in the Coontail Community near Aberdeen. He was born on January 24, 1936 in Okolona to William Floyd Rieves, Sr. and Jean Isabell Morgan. Hal married the former Ann Sturdivant on January 14, 1955 and in the same year, graduated Amory High School where he played football and ran track. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and prior to his retirement, he worked as maintenance supervisor for Kerr-McGee. Known for his hard work, he gave 110% into everything he did. His activities seemed endless whether it was stock car racing or as a horse jockey, and he could do and build just about anything. A long-time cattle farmer, he was also a charter member of the Broken Wheel Riding Club and an avid Ole Miss fan. When he found time to enjoy hobbies, they included hunting, fishing, going to his cabin, or working in his shop. He had a deep and abiding faith in God, and he served faithfully at Friendship Baptist Church in Aberdeen where he had been a deacon. Above all this, his family was most important and he supported his children and grandchildren in all their sports activities.
