Don Lowe, 88, passed from this life on June 30, 2024 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. Born on December 9, 1935 in Witt, IL, he was a son to John (Jack), Jr. and Verona R. Bennett Lowe. Don graduated from Witt High School in 1953 and enlisted with the U.S. Army. From 1954-1955, he was stationed in Korea—Special Category Army Personnel with Air Force (SCARWAF). In 1957 he matriculated to McKendree College, now University, in Lebanon, IL, graduating in 1959. While in college, he worked as a veteran representative, drove teachers to offsite classes, did mimeographing and worked at Joe Cabelo’s Drug Store at the soda fountain. Proudly, he earned his bachelor’s degree in only 29 months while working full-time. From 1959 to 1962, he taught 7th and 8th grade math and coached basketball at Nokomis, IL. From 1962 to 1966, he taught at Green Valley High School in IL, where he also coached basketball. The summers between 1964 and 1966 he attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL where he earned his master’s degree. In addition, he was a National Merit Scholar. From 1966 to 1973, he taught high school and coached basketball in Warren, IL. While there, he began working part-time or Fort & Schock Auto Dealership in Pekin, IL in the summer and later full time after a couple of years. In 1986, he moved to Greenwood, MS to work for Scott Chrysler dealership, then moving to Aberdeen, MS to join Jerry Enis Motors. In 1988, he married Michelle and purchased the Ford dealership, opening Lowe Ford, Inc. - Super Lowe Ford - in Aberdeen. In 2002, he sold the dealership and went back to teaching math at Aberdeen High School, retiring in 2005. After retiring, Don enjoyed family times and tinkering with and selling used cars.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Lowe of Aberdeen; one son, Jimmy Lowe (Jamie) of Pekin, IL; daughter, Paige Corley (Stanton) of Belton, TX; stepdaughter, Lindsey Ranney (Kimberly) of Gulfport; brother, Dr. John Lowe, III (Sheryllee) of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Annie Gregory (Lauren), Amy Gregory (Amber), Jimmy and Jenna Lowe, Waverly and Boone Corley, and Vivian Ranney; one great granddaughter; one niece; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gary Lowe; son, John S. Lowe; daughter, Tracy Lowe (Ade); and granddaughter, Mary-Haley Lowe.
