David Lee Walters, Jr.

David Lee Walters, Jr., 68, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital—Golden Triangle in Columbus.  Known as “Pop” to his family, he was a life-long resident of Monroe County born on December 3, 1954, to David Lee, Sr., and Annie Katherine Byrd Walters.  David Lee attended Greenwood Springs and Hatley schools and he married the former Pam Lawrence in 1981.  For many years, he worked in commercial construction for several different companies, and he was instrumental in the construction of the Aberdeen Lock and Dam.  He was self-appointed as Mayor of Westville and of Shields Circle and his hobbies included going out on his boat, out on the tractor, or on his motorcycle.

 

Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Sartor Cemetery with Bobby Cleveland officiating.  Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

 

In addition to his wife, Pam Lawrence Walters; he is survived by one son, Don McBeth of Columbus; two daughters, Rachel Thomas (Billy) of Caledonia and Krystal Murray (Chris) of Aberdeen; one brother, Kevin Walters (Pamela) of Long Beach, MS; one sister, Kathy Faulkner (Wayne) of Aberdeen; and 6 grandchildren, Kayla Parker, Annabeth Thomas, Elizabythe McBeth, Colin Murray, Kara Murray, and Cody Murray.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Anna Kathryn Murray.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m.
