David B. Howell, 88, passed away on February 4, 2023 in Louisiana. He was born on August 21, 1934 in Aberdeen to D. Buford and Gladys Lavenia Roberts Howell. David worked for the FBI until he was drafted and he honorably served in the United States Army. He married the former Emma Jean Tollett and he earned three masters’ degrees: Master’s in History and Library Science both from the University of Mississippi and a Master’s in School Administration from Mississippi State University. He worked as university librarian for Louisana College, Mississippi State University, Delta State University, and Nicholls State University. He was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served as deacon. In addition, he was active in Gideons International and he was a member of the National Geneaology Society. He was a Mason and Shriner, a member of the Lion’s and Civitan Clubs and a scout master. He loved to read and was an avid coin collector.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. Rick Burton officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Greenbrier Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is entrusted with the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Jean Tollett Howell; and one son, David Burton Howell and wife, Jeanne Sewell Howell.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Elizabeth Howell, and Denise Elizabeth Howell.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service time.
