Chip Chism

November 11, 1951 — April 9, 2025

Aberdeen

Glenn E. "Chip" Chism, 73, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.  He was born in Monroe County on November 11, 1951 to the late Harry and Reba Sanders Chism.  Chip attended Becker School and Married Glenda Jo Ford in 1976.  If you ever had muffler work done in Monroe County, odds are Chip is the one who did it.  For over 35 years, he owned and operated Chip's Muffler Shop in Aberdeen.  In addition to working on mufflers, there was also a lot of talk and solving the world's problems that went on at the shop.  Everyone who knew Chip, knew that he loved to talk and was not shy about his principles and values.  When he wasn't working, Chip enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles.  He loved working on and driving his antique cars, and everyone who has an antique or motorcycle is asked to put it in Chip's funeral procession.  Being raised in a family of 9 siblings, he knew the importance of family and enjoyed being with them, especially his two boys, Cory and Josh.  Chip felt it an honor to serve the citizens of Monroe County for two terms as Monroe County Supervisor, 3rd District. Chip and Jo enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to the next trip.  Chip never met a stranger and made many friends along life's way.

Chip is survived by his sons, Josh Chism (Ashley), Amory and Cory Chism (Lauren), Priestville; sister, Doreen Camp, Fulton; brother, Gene Chism (Madeen), TX; grandchildren, Caity Jo Chism and Collin Corbell; special friend, Dana Jenkins; buddies, Jay Barnes, Dudley Taylor, Terry Logan and Fulton Ware; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Chip is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jo Chism; sisters, Linda and  Maureen; brothers, Larry Gilbert, KB, Freddy and Buddy.

Funeral services for Chip will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. Robert Fowlkes officiating.  Burial will follow in Camp Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Jay Barnes, Terry Logan, Brad Taylor, Dudley Taylor, Fulton Ware, Jim Ed Riggan and Tony Bailey.

Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday from 1 PM until 3 PM.
