Bruce West

James Bruce West, 80, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 at his residence in Hamilton.  Bruce was born in Caledonia on August 27, 1943 to the late Joseph Bruce West and Annie Corbell West.  He was a graduate of Hamilton High School Class of 1961.  Shortly after graduation, Bruce joined and honorably served in the Mississippi Army National Guard.  He married Sara Elam on March 8, 1974.  He worked for 38 years at Kerr McGee, retiring as a maintenance supervisor.  Bruce loved his community and being around people which led him to serve as a Monroe County Constable for 32 years and Monroe County District 3 Supervisor for 4 years.  He was a great story teller and would captivate any audience. Bruce was a true public servant and was well respected in the community.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching football.  He loved his family and looked forward to spending time with them at family events. Bruce was a member of Abundant Life UPCI in Hamilton.

Bruce is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sara West, Hamilton; daughters, Kim Gibson (Kerry), Columbia, MS, Kaye Seely (Craig), Hamilton, Casey Robertson (Philip), Hamilton and Rachel Whitmire (Jamie), Hamilton; son, James Larry West (Deborah), Lake Charles, LA; sister, Mary Ann Welch, Hamilton; grandchildren, Derek West, Brianna Miller, Joshua West, Kayla Haddox, Kristopher Gibson, Seth Seely, Kylie Robertson, Imilie West, Jackson West and Hunter Whitmire; great grandchildren, Brylee Miller, Colt Miller, Daniel West, Rhett Haddox, Kambree Haddox and Evelynn James Haddox; a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by a grandson, James Kyle West; sisters, Margaret Elway and Helen Franklin.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Rev. Denny Felts officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in New Prospect Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Josh West, Kristopher Gibson, Seth Seely, Jackson West, Hunter Whitmire and Kyle Tutor.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Pounders, John Robinson, Dwight Tate, Sammy Mitchell and special honorary pallbearer, Kylie Robertson.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Tisdale Lann Memorial Funeral Home from 5-8 PM.
