Bro. Robert Wayne Higgins, 81, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born on May 11, 1943, in Union County, MS, he was a son to Walter B. Higgins and Flossie Louise Smithey Todd. Growing up in Union County, he had resided in Nettleton for the past 36 years. He was married to the former Lou Evelyon Hamblin who preceded him in death. Bro. Wayne, as many knew him, retired from the ministry having preached over 50 years, and he was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. He was a fan of Ole Miss football, and he loved to travel and spend time with his family. Bro. Wayne liked gardening and to tell jokes and he will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with Bro. Henry Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in the Oak View Cemetery near New Albany.
Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Hester, Nettleton; two brothers, Johnny Todd and Ricky Todd both of Florida; 6 grandchildren, Katie Hester, Arizona, Justin Hester (Jasmine), Nettleton, Brady Hester (Marlie), Nettleton, Lauren Gilmore (Connor), Nettleton, Ricki West, Nettleton, and Devon West, Nettleton; great grandchild, Livi Kate Hester; and special friend Peggy Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lou Evelyon Higgins; one son, Keith Higgins; and son-in-law, Chris Hester.
Pallbearers will be Connor Gilmore, Devon West, Justin Hester, Brady Hester, Jeremy Morris, and Orlando Doss.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
