Bessie Perkins

Mrs. Bessie Levinia Perkins, 100, of Hamilton, MS passed into eternity Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the Care Center of Aberdeen. Mrs. Perkins was born October 3, 1924 in Franklin County, Al to Louie Waymond Rea and Mrs. Mary IcyBelle Rea (Jones). She was married 49 years to her loving husband Mr. Johnny Balcom Perkins, Sr. Though the majority of her life was spent as a homemaker, she did work at the Gulf Ordinance Plant in Prairie, MS during WWII. She traveled as a young woman moving frequently for her husband’s work in road construction. After his retirement they ended up back in Monroe County, Ms where she spent the rest of her life. She was a member of Hamilton Church of God Of Prophecy where she supported the ministry with prayer. The daughter of a farmer, Mrs. Perkins was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time maintaining her yard. She was a wonderful cook and could often be found around her family sharing a meal, memories, and laughter.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Hamilton Church of God Of Prophecy with Rev. Billy Stevens and Rev. Billy West officiating. Her grandson Bro. Wesley Head will deliver the Eulogy. Interment will be at the McDuffie Cemetery beside her beloved husband.

She is survived by her son Johnny B. Perkins, Jr. (Mary Jane), Hamilton: Daughters Keloth Chaffin (Buddy), Hamilton, Naomi Sides (Vertis) Hamilton, and Cindy Head Madison, MS; Her brother Lonnie Rea, Hamilton; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny B. Perkins, Sr.; son-in-law Steven Head; her grandson Daniel Head; and 10 siblings.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons. Honorary Pallbearer will be Randall Perkins. 

Visitation will be on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
