Mom loved.
She loved her children
She loved her grandchildren
She loved her great grandchildren
She loved her sisters, nieces, nephews and everyone in between
She loved her puzzles, crime documentaries, books, and beach trips.
She loved to help.
She loved to be needed.
Amanda Pounders Craig was born on a Monday, December 10, 1951 in Washington DC. Her parents were Laughton Pounders & Margaret Smithson. She grew up in Lackey, MS and settled in West Point, MS.
She was an avid reader, puzzle solver, beach lover, and writer. She worked in the finance business close to 50 years. She retired in 2019, and began working at Kellogg’s hardware and The Green Leaf florist to pass the time with an occasional well deserved beach trip with her sister Jean.
She loved helping people. She lived to help people. She was always there to lend a hand, a word of advice, or just to listen and be present in the moment with you.
She left us, Thursday, December 29, 2022.
She was always prepared, and in true Amanda fashion, she prepared a short obituary.
“I wish to be remembered as a woman who truly loved her kids and her family. Anything else is trivial. My greatest wish is that they all lead happy, contented, and productive lives. And when or if they remember me - it will be with love and much laughter. If I can accomplish this much in my lifetime, then I will consider it well spent. Nothing else really matters.”
Amanda is survived by 3 children: Tiffany Allen, Jody Gwathney, & Catherine Sawtelle (Dillon), 3 granddaughters, Hannah Sprouse, (Tyler), Emily Allen, and Mallory Gwathney, 2 great granddaughters, Avery James and Alexis Jo. Sisters, Jean Robinson and Pamela Parker, a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by, her parents, step father, and sister Denise.
